Ramahlwe Mphahlele pens deal with Orbit College

Ramahlwe Mphahlele at AmaZulu FC

Newly promoted Betway Premiership side Orbit College FC has secured the services of veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele on a one-year deal.

Mphahlele joins the North West side on a free transfer after leaving AmaZulu FC at the end of last season.

He brings a wealth of top-flight experience to the Betway Premiership newbies, who are currently navigating their maiden season in the elite league.

The 35-year-old had been training with the club for the past two weeks. His impressive displays in training convinced the Orbit College technical team to hand him a short-term deal.

The Premiership rookies are keen to infuse their squad with seasoned leadership to help steer them away from the relegation zone. Mphahlele, a 2016 African champion and two-time league winner, boasts stints at Moroka Swallows, Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs.

MAKHOYE TO RELY ON RAMAHLWE MPHAHLELE

Orbit College FC coach, Pogiso Makhoye, who confirmed that they were finalising the deal on Sunday, is expected to rely on Mphahleleโ€™s extensive experience.

With over 400 appearances in the South African top-flight, โ€˜Ramaโ€™ is one of the most experienced players in the league. He will be expected to stabilise the defence and mentor the club’s younger players.

“Rama’s experience will be invaluable to us,” a source close to the club told FARPost. “He has been very impressive in training, and his influence on the young players is exactly what the team needs right now. We are delighted to have secured him on a one-year deal.”

Mphahlele was a key figure for AmaZulu last season. He made 17 appearances, often donning the captain’s armband, before his surprising release.

The defender was impressive for the national team at the 2025 CHAN tournament in Kampala, Uganda. Mphahlele is expected to be registered immediately and could be available for selection after the international break.
