Former Orlando Pirates and Chippa United midfielder Thamsanqa Sangweni has joined a new club, Dlangezwa Hellenic FC, in the KZN ABC Motsepe League.

The talented midfielder, who is a brother to the Pirates legend Siyabonga Sangweni, is continuing his journey in football after moving across different teams in the SA third division in the KZN region.

Sangweni spent the past six months with Mkhambathi FC, having joined the club in January 2025, bringing his vast experience to the club.

Before joining Mkhambathi, the 35-year-old midfield maestro was in the colours of Msinga United, who are also competing in the KZN ABC Motsepe League.

Sangweni, who is well-travelled in South African football, will be aiming to make a meaningful impact and help his new club gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship next season.

In his turbulent football journey, Sangweni has played for teams such as BCM Stars and Peace Makers in the ABC Motsepe League over the past few years.

Meanwhile, in the PSL, Sangweni represented AmaZulu FC, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates, Chippa United, Maritzburg United, and Ajax Cape Town.

The former Bafana Bafana international played his best football at Chippa, where he made over 50 appearances, scored four goals, and contributed one assist.

In his time with the Chilli Boys, Sangweni formed an exciting midfield pairing with Xola Mlambo under the guidance of the then-head coach Dan Malesela.

After the impressive showing at Chippa, Sangweni earned a move to the Buccaneers in the 2017/18 campaign; however, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter. He left the club after one season with only three appearances under his belt.
