Stellenbosch FC defender Thabo Moloisane is on his way to join the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against Rwanda on Tuesday in Mbombela.
Bafana are fresh from a disappointing goalless draw against neighbours Zimbabwe at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday night, denting South Africa’s hopes of securing a place at the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The 0-0 draw against Zim warriors saw Bafana go to 15 points on Group C of the qualifiers, and they are two points away from table toppers Benin, who moved to 17 points after beating Rwanda 1-0.
Bafana will be aiming to collect maximum points against Rwanda and hope that Nigeria beats Benin to book a spot in the upcoming global showpiece.
In a match against the Cheetahs, Bafana suffered a blow after the key defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi accumulated a red card, and he’s suspended for the next match.
STELLENBOSCH DEFENDER RECEIVES LATE BAFANA BAFANA CALL-UP
The Orlando Pirates star received his marching orders after two yellow cards in a match against Zimbabwe.
In the past few months, Mbokazi has been a key figure for both his club, Pirates, and Bafana Bafana after coming through the Buccaneers DStv Diski Challenge side in the second round of last season.
Moloisane’s agency, P Management, confirmed that the hard-tackling defender has joined the Bafana squad. The Betway Premiership Defender of the Season nominee received a late call-up to replace Mbokazi in the Bafana squad for the Rwanda encounter.
The talented centre-back was initially in Hugo Broos’ preliminary squad; however, he didn’t make the final 23-man squad. “Thabo Moloisane joins Bafana Bafana in preparation for the match vs Rwanda on Tuesday,” P Management said on Instagram.
