DDC: Sundowns cruise past AmaZulu; Chiefs drop points in ongoing slump

Mamelodi Suundowns DDC team celebrate goal.

Mamelodi Sundowns showcased their impressive form with a commanding 3-0 victory over AmaZulu FC at the DStv Diski Challenge Festival in KwaMashu. The win at the Princess Magogo Stadium marked Sundowns’ fourth triumph of the 2025/26 DDC campaign.

The Tshwane giants solidified their dominance with a comfortable scoreline that included a sublime free kick from Bennet Mokwena.

The result impacted the log standings. Sundowns moved up to 2nd place, eclipsing Richards Bay, who dropped points after a 1-1 draw with Durban City FC on Saturday. Despite the heavy loss, AmaZulu FC remained in fifth position, as Sundowns brought an end to their hosts’ commendable four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, log leaders Orlando Pirates took advantage of the slip-ups, extending their gap at the top to 16 points. The Buccaneers secured a fifth successive victory in the campaign by beating Golden Arrows 2-1.

Kaizer Chiefs’ winless run extended to four matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Sekhukhune United at the same venue in KwaMashu.

Amakhosi took the lead in the first half but failed to withstand the ever-mounting pressure from Sekhukhune, eventually conceding the equaliser in the 61st minute. The DDC reigning champions have struggled in front of goal recently, managing just two goals in their last four outings, while conceding a single goal in each of those matches.

Weekend Results Shape the Table

In other notable results over the weekend, Stellenbosch FC maintained their solid form and top-four position by edging TS Galaxy 2-1 in Mbombela.

At the bottom of the table, the season’s struggles continued for Orbit College FC, who once again failed to secure their first victory. The North West side suffered another defeat, falling 1-0 to Siwelele FC.

However, there was a breakthrough for another struggling side as Magesi finally claimed their first win of the season, overcoming Chippa United with a 2-0 victory.

With varying results across the league, the DDC table is now slowly taking shape as matchday six completed on Sunday.
