Durban City FC continues to strengthen its technical capacity across all levels, with the latest high-profile arrival being a former technical team member of Mamelodi Sundowns. Revered performance analyst Prinil Deen has joined the KZN club, albeit on a part-time basis.
Deen’s move, which will see him work remotely, follows a brief stint with Chippa United, whom he joined during pre-season after leaving Sundowns. A club source told FARPost that the reason he opted for the remote role is that he is finishing his Honours in Psychology and his UEFA B License. “The remote arrangement will give him time to complete his UEFA B License and degree program,” the source said.
His signing with Durban City, previously known as Maritzburg United, demonstrates the club’s direction to establish a solid foundation and support the ongoing efforts of head coach Gavin Hunt, who has had a positive start in the team’s return to top-flight football.
The team is currently placed fourth on the Betway Premiership table, an impressive start for a newly promoted side. Their run includes four wins, three draws, and only two losses against Mamelodi Sundowns and Sekhukhune United from their opening nine matches. They are also in the quarterfinals of the Carling Knockout Cup.
He will undertake a dual role at the club, assisting with the detailed opposition analysis, comprehensive post-match evaluations and scouting. His experience in both the Motsepe Foundation Championship and DStv Diski Challenge League could also prove crucial in the scouting aspect.

DEENโS BRIEF STOP AT CHIPPA UNITED
Deen’s tenure at Chippa United was short-lived, with his departure coinciding with that of head coach Sinethemba Badela.
Before his move to the Eastern Cape, Deen was a respected member of the technical team at Sundowns’ DDC side. He would also provide support to the first team whenever needed. His experience in the South African game also includes a spell at second-tier side Venda FC.
The arrival of Deen brings a wealth of specialised knowledge to the newly promoted Betway Premiership club. His expertise is crucial for a club aiming to establish a modern, data-driven football structure.
His previous experience involves performance analysis, detailed post-game reviews, and in-depth analysis of individual players. Notably, Deen is also a co-author in the development of the Football Formations Book, highlighting his theoretical and practical understanding of the game. He also shares content on his LinkedIn and X accounts for analysis and tactical education, helping others learn the game.
