The South African Football Association [SAFA] has announced that it will cut ties with its technical sponsor Le Coq Sportif when the deal comes to an end in December 2025.
The French sportswear brand has been a SAFA sponsor since 2020. They provide playing kits for Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana, and all the junior national teams.
Some of the initiatives include the launch of a Banyana Banyana special-edition black kit aimed at raising awareness of gender-based violence. They wore the kit during the 2023 FIFA Womenโs World Cup in Australia.
Le Coq Sportif filed for bankruptcy with all major kit deals and partnerships in January 2025, but continued with SAFA.
SAFA AND TECHNICAL SPONSOR LE COQ SPORTIF OFFICIALLY PART WAYS
However, SAFA president Danny Jordaan recently expressed his displeasure regarding the partnership with Le Coq Sportif.
During an appearance before the Portfolio Committee on Sport, Arts and Culture, Jordaan publicly said he was not happy with the sponsor.

WHO WILL TAKE OVER AS THE NEW TECHNICAL SPONSOR AT THE SOUTH AFRICAN FOOTBALL ASSOCIATION?
There have been unconfirmed reports that SAFA could re-enter a partnership with Adidas.
“Our relationship started with many challenges but inspired a lot of on-field success for all our national teams, specifically our senior teams, Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana,” said SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao.
“We want to thank Le Coq Sportif for the partnership, and we wish them well in their future endeavours.”
Meanwhile, the director of Le Coq Sportif South Africa, Ernst van den Berg, also shared gratitude to SAFA for the partnership.
โWe are proud of the role we played in supporting South African football during this period and the memories we created together,” he said.
“From ground-breaking kit designs to shared historic achievements, it has been a privilege to stand alongside SAFA and the players who inspire the nation.โ
