Upington City FC head coach Abram Mongoya’s time at the Northern Cape club appears to be drawing to a close, FARPost has learnt.
Mongoya is reportedly on the radar of two Motsepe Foundation Championship clubs following his recent disciplinary action by Upington City. The coach was charged with “serious misconduct” for accepting a role with the Lesotho national team without the club’s prior approval.
Mongoya served on the bench alongside Leslie Notsi when Likuena faced Bafana Bafana in a crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Bloemfontein last month. The club was reportedly “caught off guard” when Mongoya failed to report for duty early in September, which coincided with Lesotho’s camp ahead of the clash against South Africa.
Following the Bafana Bafana fixture, Mongoya traveled with Likuena to face Benin in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. His disciplinary hearing took place just days after that match, leading to the serious misconduct charge and indications that his departure from Upington City is imminent.

ABRAM MANGOYA LINKED WITH TWO MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP CLUBS
The former Kruger United coach has been linked with Baroka FC, which recently placed head coach Dan Malesela and his assistant, Job Maphutha, on immediate suspension. The suspension came in response to the team’s recent poor league performances, as they have failed to secure a win in their last five matches.
They are currently 15th having won one match and drew once in seven games. Their most recent result was a 2-0 defeat against the University of Pretoria at Mafori Stadium in Lebowakgomo on Saturday.
Prior to that, Baroka FC lost 2-0 at home to Milford FC, suffered a 2-1 defeat to the newly promoted Gomora United, drew 1-1 with Casric Stars, and was defeated 1-0 by Highbury.
The Bees are also reportedly eyeing Mangoya with the future of their coaches uncertain.
