Vusi Vilakazi leaves Kruger for new chapter at Chippa

Incoming Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi speaking

Kruger United head coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has said goodbye to his players in the Motsepe Foundation Championship as he prepares for a new chapter with Chippa United.

Indications are that the Eastern Cape club is actively engaging in discussions with Vilakazi as a potential replacement for current head coach Luc Eymael. Management at the Chilli Boys is reportedly growing increasingly impatient with the teamโ€™s results, or lack thereof, under the Belgian coach.

Eymael only recently took the reins at the Gqeberha side, but a poor start has reportedly led the clubโ€™s hierarchy to consider his immediate future. Sources close to the club suggest discussions about Eymaelโ€™s exit are ongoing, with the club perched at the basement of the Betway Premiership table.

The Chilli Boys have managed just one victory in their opening 10 league matches of the season, a run of form that has failed to satisfy the notoriously demanding club management. They were also booted out of the Carling Knockout Cup after being hammered 4-1 by Richards Bay FC a fortnight ago.

VUSI VILAKAZI A FRONTRUNNER FOR CHIPPA UNITED JOB

The former Golden Arrows and Richards Bay coach, Vilakazi, has emerged as a frontrunner to take over. Vilakazi, who had a brief stint as Chippa United’s technical director previously, could return to the Gqeberha club as head coach.

Vilakazi took over at Kruger United following the departure of Abram Mongoya at the end of last season and has led the team to a respectable seventh position in the league so far. The Mpumalanga side has recorded a mixed bag of results with two wins, three draws, and two losses so far this campaign.

The reported talks signal that the club is once again looking to make a swift change in the dugout to salvage their season. An announcement regarding Eymaelโ€™s fate and the potential arrival of Vilakazi is anticipated soon, as the club fights to climb away from the relegation zone.
