Kaizer Chiefs co-coach Cedric Kaze has pointed to what he thinks has been their biggest letdown in recent matches as their winless run continues.
The Soweto giants were held to a 0-0 draw by Siwelele FC in a Betway Premiership match at FNB Stadium on Wednesday. It was a third match in a row for Chiefs to go without scoring, translating to 300 minutes of firing blanks. That includes the extra time of the Carling Knockout Cup Last 16 clash with Stellenbosch FC.
The difficult patch threatens to throw Amakhosi’s season off the rails, having already bowed out of the Carling Knockout. While they remain fourth on the table, they are five points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have played a game more.
WHAT HAS BEEN KAIZER CHIEFS’ BIGGEST PROBLEM?
“It’s been a tough week with all the games every three days. It’s very hard to keep the consistency, but I think overall the performance was good. Not very good, but it was good,” said Kaze on SuperSport TV.
“I feel like defensively we were a little bit unbalanced. We let the opponent get in the position of crossing, in the position of box [entries]. We had the opportunities to score and you don’t have to play well everyday, but you just need to put the ball in the net.
“But unfortunately, we don’t seem to be clinical enough, [not] lucky enough in front of the net. But the only thing is to keep working and I’m pretty sure that it will come.”

Even after trying out debutant Etiosa Ighodaro to combine with Wandile Duba upfront, it still could not work for Chiefs. Khanyisa Mayo and Glody Lilepo started from the bench but were unable to influence the game when they came on.
Kaze admits it was an evening his men could have done better, given the scoring opportunities that came their way.
“Football has its mysteries. Even Siwelele when they are not well in the log, but you can see that it’s a team that has lost maybe every time 1-0 at the end,” he added. “But you know, we are at home, we are Kaizer Chiefs and we had the ball and opportunities to score. We were controlling the game and I think we had to do better.”
Chiefs will now be pushing to end their winless streak when they host AS Simba in a CAF Confederation Cup match on Saturday.
After the 0-0 away stalemate, a scoring draw at Dobsonville Stadium will end Chiefs’ campaign in the continental competition.
