Orlando Pirates have been knocked off the summit of the DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] table after suffering their first loss of the season, a disappointing 2-1 defeat away to Polokwane City FC.
The Buccaneers, who entered the match at the Mafori Mphahlele Stadium on Saturday leading the log with 19 points, couldn’t hold on to a 1-0 halftime advantage. Rise and Shine rallied in the second half, scoring twice to hand Pirates their maiden defeat.
This unexpected stumble opened the door for rivalsย Mamelodi Sundowns. Earlier in the day,ย Masandawanaย showed their mettle by securing a thrilling 3-2 victory againstย TS Galaxyโtheir fifth consecutive win.
Sundowns’ resilient performance earned them the crucial three points needed to close the gap. The Pretoria side now tops the DDC table, drawing level on points with Pirates but claiming the lead onย goal difference. The dramatic shift sets up an exciting race for the championship as the season progresses.
CHIEFS CONTINUE TO STRUGGLE

On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs once again failed to collect maximum points, drawing 1-1 with Magesi FC. Like their neighbours, Pirates, the DDC defending champions went into half-time with a 1-0 lead. However, they failed to defend their lead, with Keletso Makgai equalising for the hosts.
The Soweto giants have now registered their fourth consecutive draw, failing to win in six. Despite failing to collect the maximum points, Chiefs moved up one place, from 10th to 9th on the log. They go above Sekhukhune United, who played to a goalless draw against Siwelele FC on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Golden Arrows remained at the bottom of the table despite collecting their second three points of the season. Abafana Besโthende went passed a struggling Marumo Gallants by 2-1.
