Former Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge star Ayanda Rorwana has joined Orlando Pirates in the ABC Motsepe League for the 2025/26 campaign.

The talented midfielder came through the Chiefs’ development structures as one of the top prospects who could make a major contribution in South African football. Rorwana played with notable names such in the Chiefs DDC team such as Njabulo Blom, Happy Mashiane, Given Thibedi, and Samkelo Zwane, amongst many others.

The 27-year-old produced impressive performances for Amakhosi in the reserve league, bossing the midfield with his composure and good passing ability. Despite his potential, Rorwana did not gain promotion to the club’s senior team, and Chiefs sent him on loan to Moroka Swallows and Pretoria Callies in the 2019/2020 and 2020/21 seasons.

After struggling for regular playing minutes in his two loan spells, Rorwana was released by Chiefs to explore playing options elsewhere.

In the 2022/23 campaign, Rorwana signed with La Masia during their time in the Motsepe Foundation Championship before being relegated to the ABC Motsepe League.

Having spent the past few years looking to find a stable home, Rorwana has joined Pirates side in the third tier. The feeder team, previously known as Pele Pele, has rebranded and has been using the Pirates’ name since the start of the new season.

With a move to the Houghton-based side, the central midfielder will be looking to make a good account of himself and bring his career back on track. Rorwana featured for his new club, where they drew 2-2 against La Masia this past weekend.

Rorwana will aim to follow the footsteps of names such as Yusuf Maart and Siyabonga Dladla, who used the Pirates feeder team as a pathway to secure moves in the SA top-flight.
