Sekhukhune United youth coach Kaitano Tembo has spoken about his recent call-up to the Zimbabwe National team as part of the technical team.

Tembo was on the bench against Bafana Bafana and Lesotho in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers, assisting Michael Nees, who has since been sacked.

The 55-year-old is reportedly one of the favourites to take the job ahead of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Zimbabwe have been drawn in Group B alongside South Africa, Angola and Egypt.

WHAT KAITANO TEMBO SAID ON HIS RECENT CALL-UP TO THE ZIMBABWE NATIONAL TEAM

“It’s always good to be in that environment. You always learn when you work at a different level as well,” he said.

“So for me it’s important not to really cage myself if I may put it that way. You know, spread my wings and be able to do that. I also appreciate the club [Sekhukhune United] for giving me that opportunity to be able to do that.”

When asked what he thinks of being linked with the Zimbabwe national team head coach job, this is what Tembo had to say. “No comment. For that, I can’t comment.”

SEKHUKHUNE UNITED DEVELOPMENT COACH EMBRACES HIS ROLE TO UNEARTH NEW TALENT

Tembo has been in charge of the development structure and the DDC side since the arrival of coach Eric Tinkler to the senior team. Having also worked with young players at SuperSport United, Tembo has embraced the new challenge.

“It’s a new challenge, but it’s a challenge that we are ready for. I think everyone in the club is very supportive about that because that’s the direction that the club wants to take in terms of making sure that players come from our DDC to be able to help the first team. It’s going to need a lot of patience for us to be able to do that.
