Former SuperSport United coach Kaitano Tembo has hailed the growth of some of the now-defunct club’s products who have become key to Bafana Bafana.

Football wise, South Africa has seen a rise in their performances in recent times under coach Hugo Broos.

These include a Bronze medal at the AFCON tournament in Ivory Coast. It was Bafana’s only second ever AFCON bronze medal with their first being in 2000.

They have also qualified for the AFCON taking place in Morocco in December this year. But most importantly Bafana Bafana have qualified for the FIFA 2026 World Cup taking place in North America next year.

WHAT KAITANO TEMBO SAID ON SEEING HIS FORMER PLAYERS MAKE A MARK

“Sometimes you get goosebumps when you see players that you have known from a very young age, coaching them at junior level,” he said.

“Giving some their professional debuts and they got on to represent the country. Going to AFCON and the World Cup. I can only be proud and wished them all the best because I think they deserve it. They are very good players.”

With more speculation that Tembo could be appointed head coach of the Zimbabwe national team, he is likely to face some of his former players at the AFCON.

South Africa and Zimbabwe will battle it out in Group B of the tournament alongside Egypt and Angola.
