Following his return to Cape Town City FC, Andries Ulderink’s new role at the Motsepe Foundation Championship has been revealed.
The Dutchman’s comeback follows a period of uncertainty after he was recently spotted in Cape Town.
The 56-year-old was initially appointed head coach at the start of the current season but left shortly thereafter to take up an assistant manager position under Erik ten Hag at Bayer Leverkusen.
His return is a significant development for the Mother City side, who are currently plying their trade in the second tier after being demoted last season following a disappointing run in the PSL Promotional/Relegation Playoffs.
Ulderink’s new position comes as the club appears to be finding some stability under his compatriot, Jan Vreman, who took over the coaching reins after his initial departure.
CT City has secured back-to-back victories against Midlands Wanderers and The Bees. After eight games, their record stands at two wins, three draws, and three losses.

WHAT IS ANDRIES ULDERINK’S NEW ROLE AT CAPE TOWN CITY
A source close to the former Ajax Cape Town mentor confirmed the agreement between Ulderink and the club’s management. His role at the club has now been clarified as Head of Football.
“He will oversee all football operations at the club, including the first team, youth teams and recruitment. He will also serve as the key link between the club’s sporting and business functions,” a source told FARPost.
This ‘head of football’ role suggests Ulderink will focus on the club’s long-term vision and operational structure for its football division, providing high-level guidance while Vreman manages the day-to-day coaching. Ulderink was notably spotted observing the team’s Leicesterford game from the VIP stands last month.
The Zwolle-born veteran brings a wealth of experience to the role, having held positions at high-profile clubs across Europe, including Scottish giants Rangers, Twente FC in the Netherlands, Royal Antwerp in Belgium, and Reading in England.
