While Kaizer Chiefs and Stellenbosch FC await their group stage matchups, FARPost looks at their current earnings and potential rewards if they advance to the quarter-finals.

The group stage draws for both the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup will take place on Monday in Johannesburg.

South Africaโ€™s two representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup โ€“ Chiefs and Stellies โ€“ reached the group stages, opening the door to earn substantial money, which they can then reinvest in their respective clubs.

Amakhosi progressed through the preliminary rounds, defeating Angolan side Kabuscorp and then overcoming DRCโ€™s AS Simba. This campaign marks their return to continental football after a few years, with their most recent major appearance being the 2021 CAF Champions League final, where Pitso Mosimaneโ€™s Al Ahly narrowly defeated them.

The Winelands outfit, semi-finalists last season, also progressed to the money-spinning group phase after beating Equatorial Guineaโ€™s 15 de Agosto. They will be hoping to surpass their previous best performance, which saw them lose to Fadlu Davidsโ€™ Simba SC in the last four of the competition.

WHAT ARE CHIEFS AND STELLENBOSCHโ€™S GUARANTEED EARNINGS SO FAR?

For reaching the group stages, both South African clubs are guaranteed a minimum payout of US$400,000 [about R6.9 million]. This is the amount awarded to clubs that finish third and fourth in their respective groups.

Should they perform well enough to secure one of the top two spots and advance to the quarterfinals, the guaranteed prize money would increase to $550,000 [about R9.5 million].

The prize for the winner is US$2 million [R34.5 million] while the runner-up is guaranteed a significant windfall of US$1 million [R17.2 million]. Teams that reach the semi-finals will each secure US$750,000 [R12.9 million].
