Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart missed a penalty but survived being a villain after SV Ried beat SW Bregenz 1-0 to reach the Austrian Cup quarter-finals.
It was a dramatic victory for Ried, who were away at Bregenz as centre-back Oliver Steurer grabbed the only goal of the match in extra time following a 0-0 draw in regulation time.
Maart missed his penalty on 105 minutes, but Steurer made amends for him 15 minutes later, right at the death. The ex-Amakhosi captain played the whole match, while former Stellenbosch FC midfielder Antonio van Wyk started the game but was taken off just after Maart missed from the penalty spot.
In the Austrian Cup quarter-finals, Ried are joined by LASK Linz, SCR Altach, BW Linz, SK Sturm Graz, Wolfsberger AC and SK Rapid Wien. The winner of Thursdayโs clash between Austrian giants FC Red Bull Salzburg and WSG Tirol will complete the last eight.
Ried are seventh in the Austrian Bundesliga, seven points behind leaders SK Sturm Graz, who have a game in hand. They are still in contention to secure a spot in Europe next season.
LORCH MEETS HIS FORMER PIRATES COACH

Meanwhile, in Morocco, Thembinkosi Lorch started in the Casablanca Derby between Wydad and Raja. The 32-year-old faced his former Orlando Pirates coach, Fadlu Davids, in this Botola Pro League showdown, which ended goalless.
Lorch was substituted in the 77th minute as Wydad remain unbeaten in the league this season with three wins and two draws to settle fourth on the table. Davidsโ Raja are also yet to taste defeat and are second on the standings, having won three times and recorded as many draws.
Just a point separates the Casablanca rivals in this Botola title race which is still wide open as MAS Fes lead.
