‘We need to be honest’ – Vilakazi reacts to first match at Chippa

Chippa United coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi has reacted to the 3-0 defeat suffered against AmaZulu FC on Saturday in his first match since his return to the “Chilli Boys”.

Vilakazi recently returned to the Betway Premiership side to take over the reins following the departure of Luc Eymael.

However, Vilakazi saw his side lose by three goals to his former side at the Buffalo City Stadium in East London.

Chippa could have scored early in the first half, but Orlando Pirates loanee Goodman Mosele missed from the penalty spot.

WHAT VUSUMUZI VILAKAZI SAID AFTER LOSING HIS FIRST MATCH FOLLOWING HIS RETURN

“First thing I must say and admit that it’s a work in progress. I think we need to be honest with ourselves,” said after the match.

“There were a lot of problems, and you can’t rectify everything overnight. But in this game, you can only take the positives because we started very well and we dominated the first half.

“Had we converted the penalty into a goal, we would be talking about something else now. But by saying that, I am not blaming the player. Even top players in the world miss penalties, but it could have changed everything because we were on top of the opposition and scoring was just going to be a cherry on top for us.”

WHAT CHIPPA UNITED NEED TO START GETTING THE RESULTS UNDER THE NEW COACH

Vilakazi also believes working on the psychological aspects of the players could help a great deal with their turnaround.

“What is important is to make sure that we align the psychological aspects of the players,” he added.

“As I have said, I don’t think that the players can be bad overnight. They cannot. So we just need to work on their minds in terms of believing in themselves and trusting the process.

“So that we can start generating the results. But that is happening; it might be slow, but surely it will give us the fruits very soon.”
