Tefu Mashamaite reveals lessons learnt in SA third-tier

Tefu Mashamaite during his stint at Phalaborwa United

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Tefu Mashamaite has revealed the lessons learned in the SAFA ABC Motsepe League following his short stint with Phalaborwa United in Limpopo.

The 41-year-old was shown the exit door by Phalaborwa United just after two games in charge, having joined them in September this year.

Mashamaite was brought in by the amateur side following their promotion to the Limpopo ABC Motsepe League, with the intention of helping the club gain promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

However, the relationship between the two parties succumbed to a premature ending after the Nedbank Cup qualification stage setback on Saturday, 25 October. This follows Phalaborwa United’s 4-3 loss on penalties to Nkowankowa Continental FC at the Nkowankowa Stadium in Tzaneen. The game ended with a score of 0-0 after regulation time.

In the two games that Mashamaite oversaw, he secured one victory and drew the other, which he unfortunately lost in a penalty shootout, which led to his departure.

TEFU MASHAMAITE’S KEY TAKEAWAY IN THE MOTSEPE LEAGUE

Mashamaite disclosed that his time with Phalaborwa United made him understand that he still loves football and plans to keep coaching to help unleash raw talent.

He went on to state the areas where he feels the league can improve moving forward.

“The lessons I learned are that I still have a passion for the game. I really want to pursue this coaching journey,” said Mashamaite in an interview with FARPost.

“There are kids that I want to help reach their dreams, as I plan to continue to coach.

“The ABC Motsepe League standard is good in terms of talent, but the refereeing can be better, the playing surface can be improved, and the administration can be better.”
