Why Thembinkosi Lorch was sidelined for Wydad vs Ittihad Tanger

Thembinkosi Lorch celebrate

Thembinkosi Lorch was a surprise omission for Wydad Athletic Club when they faced Ittihad Tanger on Sunday in a Botola Pro League match.

Lorch has been in fine form for the Casablanca giants. 10-man Wydad emerged 2-0 winners in the clash against Ittihad. The result left them in third place, level on points with second-placed AS FAR Rabat and a point behind league leaders.

The former Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns winger has had an impressive start to the season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in seven appearances across all competitions. However, on Sunday, the 32-year-old attacker was not even included in the Wydad matchday squad.

The reason for his absence has been revealed, and Wydad fans will need to wait until the next fixture to see their star South African attacker back in action. The reason for his absence is a minor injury sustained during the recent high-stakes derby against Fadlu Davidsโ€™ Raja Casablanca. The derby ended goalless.

LORCHโ€™S QUICK RETURN EXPECTED

Lorch, who has been a key player for Wydad since his permanent move from Sundowns, reportedly picked up a knock during the intense Casablanca Derby. While the injury is โ€˜not serious,โ€™ the technical team opted for a precautionary rest to prevent any escalation of the problem.

His recent form, which has seen him consistently impress in the domestic league and continental competitions, made his absence a notable blow for the Red Castle, even against Ittihad Tanger.

Lorch is expected to be available for selection for Wydadโ€™s next game. They will visit Hassania Agadir on Wednesday, 5 November, away from home, and will hope to have the ex-Pirates talisman.

Meanwhile, Lorch’s teammate Tumisang Orebonye has repeatedly hailed him as a top attacker whom he believes should have a place in the national team.
