Former Premier Soccer League [PSL] champions Santos FC have been expelled from the ABC Motsepe League, a decision the club’s management plans to challenge.

The Cape Town outfit received official communication from SAFA Cape Town on Monday, 3 November. The ruling follows Santos’ legal battle with SAFA after they were barred from participating in the Nedbank Cup playoffs over outstanding financial obligations.

The club had taken the matter to court, which was later referred to arbitration. However, before a final verdict was reached, Santos were informed of their expulsion from the league.

“It is true,” confirmed club chairman Goolam Allie to FARPost. “From my perspective, there is no justification. We will obviously contest it.”

Meanwhile, the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League remains on hold, facing yet another delay to the season kickoff. Last campaign, Santos finished fourth, 16 points adrift winners, Hanover Park FC.
