Alexi Efstathiou explains how CT Spurs landed Kappa deal

Cape Town Spurs and Kappa

Cape Town Spurs have pulled off a surprise deal. A long-term partnership with Italian sportswear giants Kappa. The big question on everyone’s lips: how did a third-tier club pull this off?

FARPost reached out to the club’s CEO, Alexi Efstathiou, who has said the answer lies in the power of the CT Spurs brand and the club’s professional culture, which he believes goes far beyond league status.

The club announced on Wednesday: “Cape Town Spurs Football Club, the renowned South African club with a deep commitment to youth development, today announced a significant long-term technical partnership with global sportswear giant, Kappa,” the note said.

WHY KAPPA CAME ON BOARD

According to Efstathiou, CT Spurs have built a reputation for creating solid relationships with sponsors rather than chasing short-term gains. He has said that commitment and a disciplined structure continue to make CT Spurs a valuable brand, no matter the league they find themselves in.

“We understand the question on everyone’s mind, particularly given our current position in the ABC,” Efstathiou told FARPost. “The answer is simple; our brand strength and professionalism go beyond the league we play in.”
“A partnership like this one speaks to our respect for the game and operating with honesty.”

“Brands want stability, professionalism…They look for more than just a badge on a shirt. They want a reliable and ethical partner. We do not get distracted. We live our brand every single day,” Efstathiou concluded.

CT Spurs lost their two players, Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, to Kaizer Chiefs, who are also sponsored by Kappa, when they were relegated last season. The duo moved to Amakhosi as free agents.

In the meantime, the Western Cape ABC Motsepe League season is expected to kick off before the first week of December. The former PSL side will be looking to bounce back to the professional ranks quickly.
