TS Galaxy head coach Adnan Beganovic has addressed the surprise absence of Khulumani Ndamane in a clash against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday night.

Galaxy suffered a 1-0 defeat against Sundowns in the Betway Premiership at Loftus Versfeld Stadium. The Brazilians collected maximum points to move to 25 points at the summit of the log standings thanks to a goal from Arthur Sales.

The Rockets put up a gallant fight against the defending champions, creating a handful of scoring chances; however, Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams stood firm between the sticks.

After proving to be wasteful in the final third, Sundowns grew in confidence to return to winning ways after playing to a 1-1 draw against Orlando Pirates this past weekend.

In a trip to Pretoria, talented defender Khulumani Ndamane was a surprise absentee in the matchday squad. The Bafana Bafana international has been a key figure in defence for Galaxy, consistently producing impressive performances.

Ndamane is in his second season with the Mpumalanga-based side after signing with the club on a free transfer after parting ways with the Kaizer Chiefs DStv Diski Challenge side in July 2024.

His coach, Beganovic, has revealed that Ndamane has an injury after picking up a knock against Stellenbosch FC in a match before Sundowns. Meanwhile, the highly-rated centre-back has been linked with a move to the Tshwane giants.

“About Khulumani and [Macbeth] Mahlangu got knocks against Stellenbosch, and you know I didn’t want to risk with both players,” Beganovic said.

“Maybe I could have pushed both players to play, but maybe we would have made the situation worse and lost those players for the important last three games [before AFCON break]. We agreed with the medical team and the coaching staff not to use both players, and we also want to see the level of the new players.”
