‘It is a good problem’: Kaze embraces Chiefs’ dilemma

Kaizer Chiefs co-coach has noted what he says is a “good headache” after witnessing his side record a convincing 4-1 Betway Premiership victory over Orbit College FC on Tuesday.

Mduduzi Shabalala led the charge with a brace while Mfundo Vilakazi and super-sub Flavio da Silva weighed in with a goal each at FNB Stadium. Ayanda Lukhele’s strike could not inspire the visitors to launch a successful comeback.

It was an evening the Soweto giants were on fire as they registered their biggest winning margin this season. It was also a third successive victory in two different competitions and a second consecutive in the PSL.

Tuesday’s result helped Chiefs jump two places up the table to position two with 22 points, the same as log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns who, however, enjoy a superior goal difference. Chiefs now pray for fourth-placed Orlando Pirates to lose or draw with Golden Arrows on Wednesday for them to remain second.

With Amakhosi having returned to enjoy a purple patch like during the early stages of the season, Kaze has pointed to what he views as a beautiful dilemma for them. Their injury situation is improving, widening selection options for the coaches.

“It’s a good thing for us. It is going to be a good headache as well to get the lineup. But it’s a good problem to have and it’s going to make even training competitive and the competitiveness of the training is going to increase the level of everyone,” said Kaze on SuperSport TV.

After Chiefs scored four goals, the Amakhosi coach feels they are improving in front of goal. Recently, they went for three straight games without finding the back of the net.

“We have been having very good performances without converting the chances that we got. It was very important to start very well and we started very well with a very good mentality.

“As I said two weeks ago, if the performances are consistent, the goals are going to come and we’re glad we scored four today and we got the three points.

“It was very important as well, even in the period of doubt, to keep showing the players the positive moments, which means we were getting there inside the box. The last passes were there and it’s just a matter of being clinical and being a little bit composed in front of the net.”
