Kruger United sign Tercious Malepe, snap up ex-Pirates coach

Motsepe Foundation Championship side Kruger United continues to bolster its squad by signing former Orlando Pirates and AmaZulu FC defender Tercious Malepe, FARPost has learnt.

The former South Africa youth international joined the club on Monday following a free transfer.

The last local team Malepe played for was Richards Bay FC, where he helped them avoid relegation in the PSL 2023/24 Relegation/Promotional Playoffs. Prior to that, he spent three years with AmaZulu FC before parting ways with the Durban club.

Malepe, who also had a stint in Ukraine with FC Minaj in 2020, played for FC Balzan in Malta before returning home recently. He now aims to establish himself at the Mpumalanga club as he seeks to rebuild his career.

The arrival of the left-footed defender at Kruger coincides with the return of head coach Abram Mongoya. Mongoya recently parted ways with Upington FC and replaced Vusi Vilakazi, who moved to Chippa United.

The second-tier side has also appointed former Orlando Pirates coach Simon Marange as their new assistant coach. He previously worked with Mongoya at Upington City FC and has since departed from the Northern Cape club. Marange formerly served as Pirates’ development coach.

The Zimbabwean left the Buccaneers at the end of last season, concluding his tenure with the club after joining in 2018. He demonstrated his coaching credentials at the Bucs by winning the Under-17 Future Champions title in 2019. Additionally, Marange was selected to coach the Zimbabwe National Team in the 2025 COSAFA Cup.

Together with Mongoya, who also serves as assistant coach of the Lesotho national team, have been tasked to secure Betway Premiership promotion. They are currently fifth in the Motsepe Foundation table, having played 10 games.

Kruger have won four games and draw four times, losing twice. Their tally of 16 points leaves them just four points behind log leaders Milford United, who have played the same number of games.

Newly promoted Leicesterford City are their next opponents, a match set for the Kanyamazane Stadium on Saturday.
