The Polokwane municipality has expressed its delight following confirmation that the New Peter Mokaba Stadium will host the 2025 Carling Knockout Cup final.
The PSL confirmed on Sunday that the 2010 FIFA World Cup facility will host the final between Orlando Pirates and Marumo Gallants on 6 December 2025.
Pirates and Gallants advanced to the final after beating Richards Bay and Golden Arrows in their respective semi-finals on Saturday and Sunday.
ORLANDO PIRATES AND MARUMO GALLANTS TO BATTLE IT OUT IN POLOKWANE
This is the first final at the venue in nine years. The last domestic Cup final to be held at the venue was in 2016 when SuperSport United defeated Orlando Pirates 3-2 in the Nedbank Cup final in May. However, the stadium has hosted Bafana Bafana FIFA World Cup qualifier matches in between.
“We are so elated. To even begin to say it’s been almost a couple of years since we have had a cup is an understatement,โ Municipality Sports and Recreation Manager Mantlako Sebaka told FARPost.

โSo we are more than excited because we have been wishing for this to happen. Just before 2025 is concluded, we get to host a Cup final. We have been asking for it, and I think we have been ready, and we are ready. Even if they tell us that they need to host the final yesterday, I can tell you that we will still be ready.”
WHAT HAS CHANGED SINCE PETER MOKABA STADIUM HOSTED THE LAST CUP FINAL
“We are keeping our facility to always be one of the best in the country. Look, we have not done any major maintenance,” added Sebaka.
However, our facility is in good shape to continuously host this type of event. So the most important thing that we have been doing is just to get the basics right, including the pitch.”
