Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Thomas Sweswe has heaped praise on Orlando Pirates, highlighting a key element that sets them apart in the Betway Premiership.
The Soweto giants have produced a string of talented young players in recent times, including Mbekezeli Mbokazi, Sibusiso Tau, Simphiwe Selepe, and Cemran Dansin.
Last season, they had Mohau Nkota, who went on to join Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ettifaq Club. Bafana Bafana star Relebohile Mofokeng is another shining example of the Pirates’ ability to identify and nurture raw talent.
In an interview with FARPost, former Chiefs defender, Sweswe, waxed lyrical about Pirates’ scouting department, stating that it’s the best in the Betway Premiership.
Sweswe opines that Pirates’ scouting and talent identification department sets them apart from the rest of the Betway Premiership teams.
SWESWE HEAPS PRAISE ON ORLANDO PIRATES’ SCOUTING DEPARTMENT

“I’ve got to give credit to Orlando Pirates’ scouting and talent identification team. They’re doing a great job in producing young players who are fitting in well in the Betway Premiership,” said Sweswe.
Sweswe believes that Pirates’ focus on developing their own talent is a key factor in their success and will soon deliver a league title for them.
“It sets them apart from most teams in the league and makes them a brilliant team to watch. The way they identify talent and nurture it is impressive, and it’s clear that they’re building for the future.”
The former defender also praised Pirates’ team structure, saying, “As a former defender, I know how important it is to have a solid team structure, and Orlando Pirates seem to have that in place. I watched these young boys against Mamelodi Sundowns, and you can tell that they are gaining confidence each game.”
Sweswe added, “They’re definitely a team to watch in the coming seasons. What’s even more impressive is that they’re doing what other teams in South Africa aren’t fully investing in – developing their own talent.
“While others might be tempted to splash the cash on established stars, Orlando Pirates are focusing on growing their own, and it’s a strategy that’s clearly paying off, an investment into the future.”
