Former Orlando Pirates goalkeeper, Moeneeb Josephs, has named the quality he believes makes Tshepang Moremi ‘special’, offering high praise for the Soweto giants’ attacker.
The 25-year-old left winger joined Pirates at the start of the 2025/26 season following a standout tenure at Betway Premiership side AmaZulu FC.
Despite a challenging start, which included being booed by sections of the fanbase, Moremi has since seamlessly integrated into the Sea Robbers’ setup. Under coach Abdeslam Ouaddou, he has made 17 appearances across all competitions, tallying eight goals and one assist.
Moremi was instrumental in securing Pirates’ recent success, playing a key role in the 1-0 victory over Richards Bay FC in the Carling Knockout Cup semi-final at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday. He netted the winner in that game. This result booked the club’s spot in the final, where they will face either Golden Arrows or Marumo Gallants.
Notably, Josephs has a prior connection with Moremi, having worked with him during his time as one of Benni McCarthy’s assistant coaches at AmaZulu.

MOENEEB JOSEPHS ON WHAT MAKES TSHEPANG MOREMI STAND OUT
Josephs has identified an “old-school mentality” as the exceptional quality that sets Moremi apart and is driving his success at the Soweto giants.
Josephs described the left winger as finally fulfilling his potential in Pirates colours, attributing his positive turnaround to this defining characteristic. He believes Moremi’s unique blend of traditional grit and determination makes him an exceptional player who is destined for greatness.
“He has that old-school mentality—the old-school winger mentality. If I get the ball, I put my head down, I’m going to go at you, and if I can’t go forward, I’m going to play it basic and play it back. I’m not going to try anything funny,” Josephs said on the SoccerBeat podcast.
“He is from that old school, you know. When we had him at AmaZulu, he was still raw. But you could see the potential, and now here at Orlando Pirates, he is fulfilling that potential.
“You know, he is just that basic winger. If I see space, I want to take you on. If I’m not going to get clever, I’m just going to give it off. He is not one of the fancy players.”
