Football agent Lance Davids has detailed how Orlando Pirates edged rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to the signature of Oswin Appollis.
The highly-rated winger joined Pirates ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season from Polokwane City FC on an undisclosed fee. Appollis arrived at the Buccaneers amongst other big names such as Sipho Mbule, Sihle Nduli, Yanela Mbuthuma, Tshepang Moremi, Nkosikhona Ndaba, Masindi Nemtajela, Sinoxolo Kwayiba, Abdoulaye Mariko, Kamogelo Sebelebele, and Lebone Seema.
The Bafana Bafana international has had a flying start to life at Pirates after winning the 2025 MTN8 title in his first few months in the books of the club. So far, Appollis has scored four goals and provided five assists in 20 matches across all competitions at the Soweto giants.

Before signing with Pirates, the 24-year-old was a subject of speculation after attracting interest from the SA’s big three and other African teams. Lance Davids has explained how Pirates beat the tough competition of Chiefs and Sundowns to land one of the best attackers in the PSL.
“The CEOs and sporting directors must have good relationships, I will say this again, Chiefs tried [to sign Appollis],” Davids said on Behind the Boot with Super Journo.
“We are not involved in those things; we don’t get involved in club-to-club matters. So if I’m club A and you’re club B and you don’t want to sell, there’s nothing the agent can do. Sundowns were also interested, Esperance was also interested, but if you ask me now, this was the best move for Oswin.
“If you look at what Oswin is doing and how he’s doing it, I think this is the best move. Take the emotions off, take the agent’s cap off. Pirates’ management was fantastic with what they did.
“They came to an agreement with Polokwane City, and the deal was done. You have to give Pirates credit, if you look at how many deals have been hijacked, not even in South Africa, they hijack them. Well done to Orlando Pirates.”
