Black Leopards’ newly appointed coach, Mabhuti Khenyeza, has detailed why he has set his own mandate to achieve at the Motsepe Foundation Championship side.

Khenyeza is in his first week in charge of the club after taking over from Joel Masutha. The latter was shown the exit door at Leopards after a poor start to the season.

The former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns striker takes over a side that is rooted at the bottom half of the table. He still has 20 matches left to turn things around.

As it stands, Leopards are 13 points below log leaders Casric Stars, who are so far the early favourite to win the league and gain automatic promotion to the Betway Premiership.

However, the 43-year-old says that although the club has not given him any mandate, he has personally set targets for himself.

WHAT MABHUTI KHENYEZA SAID ABOUT HIS PERSONAL MANDATE AT BLACK LEOPARDS

“They didn’t give me any mandate, but I gave myself a mandate, which is confidential to me,” Khenyeza told FARPost.

“I will reveal it to you one day when I have achieved that mandate. I guide myself in this job. So I don’t want to be guided by the board or whatsoever.

“I am my own guide. I hold myself accountable, day in and day out, to achieve my goals. If I fall short, I feel the weight of it. That is why I set my own mandate, measuring my progress daily and weekly to ensure I stay on track.”

However, the next five matches for Khenyeza and Leopards in the league will not be easy. They will face rivals Venda FC in the first match in Thohoyandou before they visit fellow strugglers Baroka FC.

Leopards will then host Gomora United before facing Hungry Lions and Upington City in back-to-back away matches.
