Former Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronnie Kanalelo has been appointed head coach at a new team, a day after he tendered his resignation at Bucks Buccaneers in Namibia.

Kanalelo, who is now 53, spent seven years at Sundowns between 1997 and 2005. Following his retirement from playing, the former Namibia international pursued a career in coaching.

This includes roles at now-defunct Bloemfontein Celtic and Maritzburg United, now Durban City FC. Kanalelo also serves as an assistant coach of the Namibian Brave Warriors, led by Collin Benjamin.

FORMER MAMELODI SUNDOWNS GOALKEEPER OVERCOMES SUSPENSION

The three-time league winner with Masandawana was provisionally suspended from all Namibia FA-related activities after being accused of pointing a gun at a fellow coach.

This comes after Kanalelo was involved in an altercation with Paulus Shipanga of Blue Waters after their Namibia Premier Football League match in May 2025.

The confrontation reportedly escalated to the point where both individuals allegedly reached for weapons in an attempt to settle their dispute after the league encounter.

This led to the Namibian FA banning both coaches and barring them from performing technical duties associated with their respective clubs. However, it appears the ban was eventually lifted and Kanalelo returned to the dugout.
