Former PSL striker Roggert Nyundu has found a new home in the SAFA Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League, joining Fernie Battalions FC.
The veteran frontman returned to playing football in the 2023/24 season, signing for Kruger United, who were still in the SA third tier after a three-year layoff from the beautiful game.
This was the same campaign in which Kruger was formed, after purchasing Caroline FC’s ABC Motsepe League status, and they went on to win the Mpumalanga stream, qualifying for the SAFA Motsepe League national Playoffs held at Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington, Northern Cape, in June 2024.
Nyundu played a crucial, multi-faceted role in the team’s promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship. He successfully captained the side, leveraged his valuable PSL experience, and provided key assistance to Kruger in achieving this goal. Although the team lost 2-0 to Highbury FC of the Eastern Cape in the Motsepe League national playoffs final, they secured promotion by finishing as the second-best team in the playoffs.
Sadly, after helping Kruger gain promotion to the SA second tier, Nyundu was released by the club as they began their new chapter in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
ROGGERT NYUNDU LEAVES DANKIE SON FOR FERNIE BATTALIONS
Nyundu joins Battallions following his departure from Dankie Son. The side also participates in the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League.
The experienced striker leaves Dankie Son languishing at the bottom [10th place] of the Stream B table. The club has nothing to show for it after four games.
As things stand, Battallions are placed in second position in Stream B of their provincial Motsepe League, with eight points from four outings. They are just two points behind stream leaders, Luthuli Brigades.
Battalion’s next league assignment will be against Zebras FC at home on Saturday, 15 November. This encounter will take place at Carolina High School Sports Field. The kick-off is at 15:00.
In the PSL, Nyudu turned out for clubs such as AmaZulu FC, Polokwane City FC, Black Leopards, and Bloemfontein Celtic.
