Mike Makaab reveals his ‘only prayer’ for Sipho Mbule

Veteran football agent Mike Makaab has revealed his ‘only prayer’ for Orlando Pirates midfield maestro Sipho Mbule following the player’s impressive form at club level and Bafana Bafana.

The highly-rated midfielder joined Pirates ahead of the 2025/26 Betway Premiership season on a free transfer after parting ways with Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of last season.

Mbule has seemingly regained his best form in the colours of Pirates, having been starved of game-time at the Brazilians. In his early days with the Buccaneers, Mbule has featured in 15 appearances across all competitions and clinched the 2025 MTN8 title with the club.

After playing regularly for Pirates, the former SuperSport United star has since returned to Bafana Bafana and is playing under the guidance of Hugo Broos. Mbule is on course to play in the AFCON next month in Morocco, and he could also be on a flight to the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.

Meanwhile, Mbule also delivered a Man-of-the-Match performance in South Africa’s 3-1 victory over Zambia in an international friendly this past weekend.

Before joining the Soweto giants, Mbule’s career had regressed due to alleged disciplinary issues, leading Sundowns to decline to renew his contract on the 30th of June 2025.

WHAT’S MIKE MAKAAB’S PRAYER ABOUT SIPHO MBULE

Speaking in an interview with FARPost, Makaab revealed that his only prayer is that Mbule recognises the opportunity both Pirates and the national team have provided him.

“There comes a time in everybody’s life where you sit down and reflect about where you are and where you should be,” Makaab said.

“Sipho has to take a lot of credit for what is happening in his career now; Orlando has to get special praise for giving him this opportunity. Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, and all the clubs he played for also deserve the credit.

“So I think Sipho has understood that he’s been given the biggest opportunity by Pirates and the national team coach, Hugo Broos. This is his time to write his name in the history books and create a legacy.

“Let’s hope that he can inspire young players and those who have fallen into doing the wrong things. My only prayer for Mbule is to look back and realise how his life has changed, and he has a great opportunity to grow from here.”
