Ex-Mamelodi Sundowns and Bidvest Wits midfielder Jabulani Shongwe has resurfaced at a new club, Phezulu FC, in the SAFA Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League.

The 35-year-old has been without a club since January 2025 following his departure from Motsepe Foundation Championship team Upington City FC.

He had joined Upington City after his stint with the now-defunct Pretoria Callies at the beginning of the 2024/25 campaign.

The veteran central midfielder has already hit the ground running at the Mpumalanga club. Shongwe was in action for Phezulu in their Stream A ABC Motsepe League encounter against Amsterdam United over the weekend.

This showdown between Phezulu and Amsterdam United was played this past Sunday. The game ended with a scoreline of 3-0 in favour of Phezulu at the Lillian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda.

Shongwe has also represented teams such as Golden Arrows, Chippa United, Highlands Park, and Venda FC in the PSL.

Paseka Sekese, who also played for Wits, was spotted in action for Phezulu FC as the amateur side looks to strengthen its midfield.

Sekese, 31, has also had a fair share of play at clubs such as Cape Town All Stars, Richards Bay FC, and TS Sporting.

Shongwe and Sekese’s experience is anticipated to assist the team in fighting for the league title honours and securing qualification for the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, aiming for promotion to the Motsepe Foundation Championship.

As things stand, Phezulu are placed at the top of Stream A of their provincial ABC Motsepe League table. They have collected 16 points from six outings. They are three points ahead of the second-placed Middelburg United.

Phezulu’s next league game will be against Machidi Lion Brothers FC on Saturday, 22 November, at the Secunda Stadium. The kickoff is set for 15:00.
