Sekhukhune United have strengthened their technical bench with the arrival of former SuperSport United assistant coach and Bafana Bafana legend, Andre Arendse.

According to information reaching FARPost, the former Bafana goalkeeper started work last week at his new Betway Premiership side.

His role at the Limpopo outfit is to assist the head coach, Eric Tinkler. Interestingly, Arendse reunites with his 1996 AFCON-winning Bafana Bafana teammate Tinkler. His arrival brings a wealth of top-flight experience as both a successful goalkeeper and a coach. His specific background as a goalkeeper coach and assistant/interim head coach will provide invaluable support to Tinkler.

Tinkler, who joined Babina Noko earlier this year, is assisted by his former player Marc van Heerden and Paulos Masehe.

The club has reportedly signed Arendse to bolster the bench. Crucially, his vast knowledge is expected to significantly benefit Sekhukhune’s current goalkeeper coach, Nascent Nkhwashu, offering him an opportunity to learn and further develop under the veteran mentor.

The 58-year-old recently left rebranded Siwelele FC [formerly SuperSport United] and has begun his new role immediately at Sekhukhune United, who believe his expertise will help the club maintain its strong form. Babina Noko currently sit in fourth place in the Betway Premiership table with 21 points after 11 matches.

Tinkler’s men enjoyed a brilliant start to the 2024/25 season, winning their opening five matches and maintaining an 11-game unbeaten streak across all competitions, which included victories over giants like Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

However, their momentum was broken by a loss to Polokwane City FC. This first defeat triggered a slump, with the team subsequently losing two more matches in a row against Golden Arrows and Siwlelele FC before settling for a 1-1 draw against struggling Richards Bay FC in their most recent fixture before the November FIFA international break.
