Kaizer Chiefs are counting on detailed CAF Confederation Cup preparations as goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma spells out Amakhosi’s determination to avoid final-day drama in their Group D campaign.
They are in this pool alongside Al Masry, two-time champions Zamalek SC, and Zambian giants ZESCO United.
The Soweto giants kick-off this phase of the continental tournament with a visit to Al Masry. They come up against the Egyptian side at Suez Stadium on Sunday evening [18:00], seeking a flying start by collecting maximum points on the road.
Having picked up form just before the FIFA break, Chiefs would be hoping the time without competitive football did not affect their momentum. That period might have also afforded Amakhosi the opportunity to fully focus, undisturbed, in plotting against their Egyptian opponents.
CHIEFS LEAN ON HOMEWORK AS BVUMA WARNS OF AL MASRY FIGHT

“We did our analysis, and they are very good teams. With North African teams, it’s all about fighting and fighting. All they want are results, so we know it’s not going to be easy for us, but I believe in the squad that we will come back home with a positive result,” said Bvuma.
“It’s important that we get maximum points in this game to set the tone for us. If we win this game away, it’s going to show that we really mean business, even in the next games.
“It’s not going to be easy, but we won’t have stress, as we don’t want to play the last game calculating who must win, who must lose. Now we just need to make sure that we focus on our games. Win if we can, if not, we don’t have to lose the game.”
The Soweto giants are playing in the group stage of continental football for the first time since 2021, when they reached the CAF Champions League final.
“Being back in the CAF Confederation Cup is very exciting. We have reached the final [of the Champions League] and we know how sweet the journey was. We had challenges along the journey, but it was a great experience,” Bvuma added.
“You get some exposure playing on the continent. There is a reason few of our boys are not here today; some are playing abroad. I believe playing in the Champions League is also one of the reasons they managed to go abroad.”
