Golden Arrows striker Junior Dion has opened up on the responsibility of leading the Betway Premiership Golden Boot race after emerging as one of the league’s top performers so far this season.
The 27-year-old tops the PSL scorers’ chart with seven goals from 11 matches. It is a tightly contested race as TS Galaxy’s surprise package, Seluleko Mahlambi, Iqraam Rayners and Bradley Grobler have six goals each.
Dion has missed just one league game for Abafana Bes’thende this season, and there are 18 other matches waiting for him to increase his tally this term, should he not be injured or suspended. Playing for a club like Arrows, where expectations are lower on them, takes the pressure off the Ivory Coast-born Chad international.
‘I WANT TO SCORE IN EVERY GAME’: DION BACKS HIMSELF
“I don’t have pressure [leading the PSL scorers’ chart]. I’m positive and working hard. Everything God gave me, I’m thankful, and I want to make sure that I score in every game. I’ll see what happens when the league is finished,” Dion told FARPost.
“I’m just focused, and I don’t know what will happen when the season finishes. I might end it on number one, two or three, I don’t know. I’m just focused on scoring in every game, and I’ll see what happens. God will take care of everything else.
“I appreciate the support I’m getting from my family, teammates, coaches and Golden Arrows fans. That pushes me, and I’m sure it will help me in my ambition to score more goals in every game.”

His exploits have gone unnoticed by the Chad national team, which lured him to switch international allegiance to them after he was born in the Ivory Coast.
His international career kicked off at 27, when Chad called him up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Mali and the Central African Republic. It was a losing start to this new journey as they lost both games at home.
“For the national team, Chad approached me after they saw me doing very well. Ivory Coast have a lot of players overseas and a lot of competition,” Dion said.
“With Chad, there are less expectations and I’m very happy with the decision I made to accept playing for them. My ambition is to go very far and play at AFCON. I believe Chad now have a lot of good players and they will go very far.”
