Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Lebohang Maboe has given a detailed analysis of what his side is expecting from Egyptian side Al Masry in the CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday.

The Glamour Boys will kick-off their Confederation Cup group stage with an away encounter in Egypt against Al Masry. Chiefs are gunning for maximum points to have a perfect start to what promises to be a tough continental competition.

The Soweto giants have been pitted against Zesco United, Zamalek SC, and Al Masry in Group D on the Confed Cup. Amakhosi made it to this stage of the tournament after defeating Angolan side Kabuscorp SCP and AS Simba in the preliminary rounds.

With Chiefs looking to produce an impressive performance in Egypt, Maboe, who joined the club in the off-season, broke down the tactics that Al Masry are likely to use. The talented attacker has experience of CAF football, having played in the Champions League and won the 2023 African Football League [AFL] with Mamelodi Sundowns.

“We are about to embark on a very important journey. We have looked sharp in training and are all amped up for the game on Sunday,” said Maboe.

“Given that it’s an away game, we expect a tough, physical challenge, but we know the importance of getting off to a good start, so we are going there to get something, not just make up numbers.”

Maboe further explained why he thinks Al Masry is a good side, suggesting that they will have to be at their best to win the match. “Al Masry is a good side with a well-defined shape, using a diamond midfield and wingbacks, plus two mobile strikers up front.

“We are aware that we’ll have to be at our best against them on their home turf, but we believe in ourselves and are looking forward to the test.”
