Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Humphrey Mlwane has opened up on what went wrong at The Bees FC following his departure from the PSL club.

Mlwane and the Motsepe Foundation Championship side officially parted ways this week following a string of poor results in the league.

He played a key role in helping the club win the Mpumalanga ABC Motsepe League last season, qualifying for the SAFA ABC Motsepe League National Playoffs, where they were subsequently promoted to the PSL.

However, the results have not been forthcoming for the club in their first season in the National First Division [NFD].

The club currently occupies 13th position on the league table with 12 points from 12 matches, reflecting a disappointing return of just three wins, three draws, and six defeats.

Mlwane feels he did all he could under the circumstances and explains why he agreed to step down. “I tried my best, maybe my best was not good enough,” he told FARPost. “But I believe that maybe things would have turned around. But it’s not a train smash. I believe this was close to getting better in two or three games.

“We still could have gone back to the top 10. But maybe the management felt that someone could do a better job,” he added.

HUMPHREY MLWANE EXPLAINS WHAT WENT WRONG AT THE MOTSEPE FOUNDATION CHAMPIONSHIP SIDE

“It’s part of life, we are coaches, so we are hired to be fired at the end of the day. But we agreed that as the results are not there, I also felt let me also step down and allow someone to do better. I tried my level best.

“As you said, the team didn’t have resources. As we speak, it was tough because I couldn’t even study the opponents and all that. I also felt that as the season progressed, our players had a little bit of stage fright. They made lots of mistakes.”
