Cape Town City FC director of football Andries Ulderink has explained the club’s decision to part company with highly rated midfielder Luyolo Slatsha. The club recently confirmed the 23-year-old midfielder’s exit on mutual consent.
The Dutchman, who recognises Slatsha’s exceptional talent, has explained how the decision was reached.
WHAT ULDERINK SAID ABOUT SLATSHA’S EXIT
“Look, first of all, it was a decision from both sides. So, when I stepped into this role, I started talking with all the individual players about the situation. I’m still in that process,” Ulderink told FARPost.
“And look, talking with him, he spoke with his agent, and then they came back to me, and they asked the club if they could terminate the contract. We spoke with the owners about that, and the owners agreed. So, the agent and the owners, that’s how the process goes, had a good talk. And that led to this decision.”
Slatsha, a product of Ajax Cape Town’s esteemed development programme before his move to the Citizens at youth level, sought more consistent playing opportunities. The versatile midfielder, capable of excelling as a box-to-box ‘number eight’, leaves the Motsepe Foundation Championship side after making over 30 senior appearances since his promotion to the first team.
Slatsha is widely recognised as an intelligent modern defensive midfielder, adept at functioning as a deep-lying playmaker. His ability to control the tempo and disrupt opposition plays makes him a valuable asset.
ATTRACTING THE INTEREST OF BETWAY PREMIERSHIP CLUBS
The Cape Town-born star enjoyed a breakthrough season in 2023/24, firmly establishing himself in the senior squad. However, his appearances were significantly limited last season due to injury, affecting his continuity in the starting eleven.
Reports suggest that the midfielder has garnered interest from two Betway Premiership clubs and an overseas team.
Meanwhile, Slatsha, who also runs a student housing real estate business, is currently focusing on his enterprise while awaiting his next move ahead of the second half of the season.
