Brace-scoring heroes: Singh, Campbell shine in low‑key weekend

While the weekend was low-key for most South African footballers overseas, Luther Singh and Shandre Campbell delivered explosive performances, each firing in a brace for their respective clubs.

Singh was the toast of the day in Cyprus after scoring twice as AEL Limassol beat Omonia Aradippou 3‑1 at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium on Sunday.

In the same league, Mihlali Mayambela was on the losing end as Aris Limassol fell 2‑0 to APOEL at the GSP Stadium in Strovolos on Sunday.

Meanwhile, former PSL star Shandre Campbell returned to Challenger Pro League side Club NXT and scored a brace in a 3‑1 victory over Beerschot at the Jan Breydel Stadium on Saturday.

In the Danish Superliga, Gift Links played the full 90 minutes as AGF beat Randers 2‑1 at AutoC Park in Randers on Sunday evening.

Over in England, Lyle Foster featured for 46 minutes as Newcastle United edged his side, Burnley FC, 2‑1 at St James’ Park in the English Premier League on Saturday afternoon.

Luke Le Roux did not feature for Portsmouth when their England Championship clash at The Valley Stadium was abandoned after a Charlton Athletic supporter died on Saturday. The goalless game was halted shortly after the incident and, after a delay of almost an hour, officials called it off.

Meanwhile, former Mamelodi Sundowns attacker Cassius Mailula made his KV Kortrijk debut in a Challenger Pro League match against RFC Liège on Sunday at Stade de Rocour. They lost 2‑0.

In Tanzania, Neo Maema started on the bench as Simba SC suffered a 2‑0 defeat to Azam FC in a Tanzania Premier League tie on Sunday at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam. Rushine De Reuck was also absent.
