Cape Town City FC have entered the Motsepe Foundation Championship title race with a 1-0 victory over Highbury FC, while Milford FC closed off the year at the top of the league table.
The Citizens claimed a hard-fought win against NFD newbies Highbury at Athlone Stadium on Saturday, with the all-important goal from Jaedin Rhodes. The Cape Town-based side has now played five matches without suffering a defeat in the Championship, turning their fortunes after a dismal start to the 2025/26 season.
CT City have collected maximum points against Highbury, AmaTuks, Lerumo Lions, Black Leopards, and played to a draw against Upington City FC. The Citizens are sitting fourth on the standings with 22 points in 14 games, having won six times, drawn four, and lost four. They are five points behind the log leaders, Milford, and will look to close the gap in the second round of the campaign in 2026.
Elsewhere, Milford suffered a disappointing 2-0 loss against KZN rivals Midlands Wanderers away from home on Saturday. Despite their loss to Wanderers, Milford remain at the summit of the table with 27 points after 14 games.
GOMORA UNITED SHARE SPOILS WITH BLACK LEOPARDS
Meanwhile, Black Leopards and Gomora United played to a thrilling 2-2 draw on Saturday afternoon at Thohoyandou Stadium. The draw left Lidoda Duvha rooted in 16th position of the table after accumulating only 10 points in 13 games so far.
The Limpopo-based team has registered two wins, four draws, and seven defeats. As a result, Leopards are deep into the relegation zone, and they will be aiming to overturn their form when the league resumes in January 2026.
