Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou has hit back at popular football agent Lance Davids, who recently claimed that the club’s leadership lacks knowledge of the ins and outs of the game.

Efstathiou’s response calls on Davids to meet in person to discuss the claims. The Urban Warriors leader also slammed the agent for acting as an expert in multiple areas despite his limited role.

He also urged Davids to enrol his players under CT Spurs’ new paid-for development model, saying he should put his money where his mouth is.

Following the successful legal clearance of his clients, Asanele Velebayi and Luke Baartman, to join Kaizer Chiefs as free agents for the 2025/26 season Davids didn’t not held back in his criticism of Cape Town Spurs. He stated that if CT Spurs truly understood the game, they would never have dragged the matter into a courtroom.

“If you are fighting cases, you must know whether you will win or lose,” Davids said on the Smash Sports Podcast. “They lost every case they took to court, simply because they didn’t have anyone who understands football rules…”

In a direct response to Davids’ critical remarks, CT Spurs boss Efstathiou spoke to FARPost, stating: “I asked to go on the podcast to answer him one-on-one with Mazola [Molefe], but it seems he does not want to do it. I would love to respond to him in person,” he told FARPost.

EFSTATHIOU: ‘HE THINKS HE IS BIGGER THAN HIS SHOES’

“I would answer all the claims he makes. To be honest, he thinks he is far bigger than his shoes. He was a footballer for most of his life, and suddenly he acts like an expert on everything, law, agent matters, coaching, playing, you name it.

“Now let’s see how many players he is going to bring to the academy and pay for them. They love to take the fruit from the tree when it’s ready but don’t want to plant the seed.

“If he pays for the player’s academy development, then he can take them whenever he wants. With this new model, he needs to put his money where his mouth is,” Efstathiou added.

CT Spurs are competing in the ABC Motsepe League after suffering relegation from the Motsepe Foundation Championship last season.
