Wolves coach Rob Edwards says midfielder Marshall Munetsi could be sidelined for at least six weeks, ruling him out of the 2025 AFCON.
Placed in group B alongside Angola, Bafana Bafana and Egypt, The Warriors of Zimbabwe are the underdogs, looking at the FIFA rankings, where they are the least ranked team among the quartet.
With less than two weeks to go before the tournament kicks off, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Zimbabwe utility player Munetsi sustained an injury that could sideline him until February 2026.

WHAT THE WOLVES COACH SAID ABOUT MUNETSI’S AFCON CHANCES
The 2025 AFCON tournament is set to kick off on Sunday, 21 December 2025, and run up to Sunday, 18 January 2026. Munetsi suffered a muscle injury. And Wolves coach Edwards revealed that the Zimbabwe vice-captain is likely to be out for six weeks.
That means he will not be heading to Morocco for the upcoming 2025 AFCON tournament with Zimbabwe, which will likely be a significant personal setback. Furthermore, he will also be ruled out for Wolves’ remaining fixtures of the year.
“It’ll be weeks, I don’t know how many at the moment, but I think at the moment it’s looking like at least six weeks, I think,” Edwards said as quoted by Molineux News.
In addition, Munetsi missed Wolves’ latest match against Manchester United, which they lost 4-1. They remain winless after 15 matches, with 13 defeats and two draws.
Meanwhile, several players, including Khama Billiat and Walter Musona, are also set to miss the continental showpiece. Billiat seems to have retired from international football again. Musona was released from the ongoing camp, where the new coach, Marian Marinica, is fine-tuning the Warriors.
As it stands, the Romanian coach has yet to announce his squad for the tournament. It remains to be seen who will make the final team, which will be announced this week.
