Former Kaizer Chiefs player Mandla Masango has delivered a candid assessment of his former club this season. Chiefs have gone into the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] break in position four on the Betway Premiership log.
Amakhosi had secured six wins in their 13 matches played, with six draws and one defeat. They have scored 13 goals while conceding six.
Following their goalless draw against TS Galaxy on Sunday, co-coach Khalil Ben Youssef said the club was failing to convert the scoring chances it created. Ben Youssef said they would use the AFCON break to fix the problem.
The club is also third in Group D of the CAF Confederation Cup after drawing and losing their first two matches. They will only resume their campaign in late January, after the completion of the AFCON tournament in Morocco.

Chiefs have been under the guidance of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze since the departure of Nasreddine Nabi.
The current set-up has received mixed reactions, with some of the club’s former players saying it causes confusion and sends mixed messages to players.
WHY MANDLA MASANGO BELIEVES THERE HAS BEEN PROGRESS AT HIS FORMER CLUB
However, speaking to this publication, Masango says there has been a visible improvement at the club as compared to other seasons. The club has failed to qualify for the top eight for the past two seasons. He explained why he believes there is an improvement from the club this season compared to previous seasons.
“I think the way they started compared to previous seasons, they started very well,” Masango told FARPost.
“They are also within touching distance of challenging for the league. This time around last season, they were nowhere. So there is a bit of improvement.”
After the AFCON, they play host to Golden Arrows before welcoming Zambia’s Zesco United in the CAF Confederations Cup.
