‘I’m not planning to come back home’: Gift Links

Gift Links in action for his Danish side AFG Aarhus

AGF Aarhus winger Gift Links has opened up about his long-term future abroad, explaining why he has no intention of returning to the Premier Soccer League [PSL] in the near future.

Links penned a new four-year contract with the Danish side in July 2025. This deal will see the former Cape Town City FC star remain at Aarhus until June 2029.

The winger’s contract renewal underscores his pivotal role as a wing-back for the club, a position he has solidified through consistently impressive displays over his six-year tenure in Denmark.

Despite his club form, the 27-year-old remains one of the most prominent omissions from the Bafana Bafana squad ahead of the 2025 AFCON tournament in Morocco. His absence has sparked debate among fans and pundits alike, many of whom believe the versatile wide man should have been included in Hugo Broos’ final selection for the continental showpiece.

Adding his thoughts to the conversation, former Bafana Bafana international Ayanda Patosi recently told FARPost that Linksโ€™ exclusion is a missed opportunity. Patosi argued that Links is a reliable performer who can contribute and “get the job done” at any time on the international stage.

‘I’M HAPPY HERE IN DENMARK’: GIFT LINKS

Links explained that his decision to remain in Europe is rooted in a deep sense of personal and professional contentment. The winger shared his thoughts on his life in Denmark, revealing that his transition has been further smoothed by a stable personal life and a supportive partner.

“You know, it’s always difficult to move away from your so-called comfort zone. So, when I moved to Denmark, I was still a young guy who took a chance. But, of course, my experience in Egypt helped me a lot. It made it a lot easier for me because I was alone in a foreign country at 19 years old. I then went back to South Africa, and when the opportunity came for me to go to Denmark, I said, ‘Okay, let me go and see what they have for me’,” said Links on Radio2000.

“However, the first year was difficult for me. I was in a foreign country at a young age, and I had to get used to a lot of things like the weather, culture, food, and everything. But I got myself a Danish girlfriend. I think she made everything easier for m. Trust me, it’s important. She helped me a lot.

“At the moment, I’m really happy in Denmark. I’m not planning to come back home. As you have seen, I have extended my contract with my team. Of course, there were other interests from teams in the French Ligue 1, Belgium, and elsewhere.

“But I decided to commit to Denmark because I’m happy here. This is my happy place. So it was very important for me when I signed a new contract. For me to play well, I need to be happy. That is why it was easier for me to commit.”
