Ex-PSL coach Dylan Kerr has shared his thoughts on what he could achieve if handed the reins at Kaizer Chiefs, boldly declaring that he has the pedigree to deliver the league title to Naturena.
Kerr is currently working for Soccer Stars United [SSU] in the USA as part of their coaching staff. He joined the team in January of this year.
This comes after Kerr cut ties with Marumo Gallants in July 2024. He left the team barely a month into the job for his third stint with the club.
The 58-year-old mentor is no stranger to South Africa, having also coached teams such as Black Leopards, Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila [TTM], Baroka FC, the now-defunct Moroka Swallows, and, most recently, Gallants.
‘I WOULD SWIM ACROSS THE MEDITERRANEAN SEA’: KERRโS EXPLOSIVE KAIZER CHIEFS CLAIM
The former PSL mentor has staked a claim for the Chiefs’ hot seat, insisting that he would lead the Soweto giants to a league championship. Kerrโs confidence stands in stark contrast to the clubโs decade-long drought in the Premiership, with their last league trophy dating back to the 2014/15 season during Stuart Baxter’s successful tenure.

Amakhosi are currently under the guidance of co-coaches Khalil Ben Youssef and Cedric Kaze for the remainder of the season following the departure of coach Nasreddine Nabi in September this year.
Despite the position not being vacant, Kerr insisted that his ability to inspire players and his history of working with top-tier talent would guarantee silverware.
“If I were to be offered a job at Kaizer Chiefs, I would swim across the Mediterranean Sea right into Kaizer Motaung’s house. You want the league? I can do it. I have always said that,” Kerr told SoccerBeat.
Kerr pointed to a vast network of his former players now starring for South Africaโs elite as proof of his pedigree. Among the players he has mentored across his spells at BLeopards, TTM, Swallows, and Gallants are high-profile names such as Fawaaz Basadien and Sibongiseni Mthethwa. His influence also extends to the likes of Evidence Makgopa, whom he coached at Baroka FC, as well as George Matlou, Keletso Makgalwa, and the versatile Thato Khiba, all of whom have transitioned from Kerrโs leadership to the country’s most prominent clubs.
“If you look at the players that play for Chiefs, [Orlando] Pirates, [Mamelodi] Sundowns, and Stellenbosch FCโall the so-called big teamsโin the last two or three years, I would say plenty of them use players who were my players from Black Leopards, TTM, Moroka Swallows, and Marumo Gallants,” Kerr noted.
“So, I would 100% win the league with Chiefs. I would get them [players] to play for me. If you go back to the knockout cup [Nedbank Cup with TTM in 2021, beating Chippa United in the final] during COVID-19, I had 28 players, got two weeks to train, and went on to play in Durban and Johannesburg in the final.
“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you are, as long as you always get the players to put on the jersey and go play and fight for you on the field. So, that is all it takes.”
