Mamelodi Sundowns secure signature of another exciting talent

Siyabonga Mbongo signing with Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns have bolstered their ranks with the acquisition of Siyabonga Mbongo, an exciting midfield talent signed from the Remember Elite Sports Academy.

The Tshwane giants, known for being one of the most aggressive clubs in the transfer market, continue to uphold their reputation for attracting top talent to the PSL.

The Braziliansโ€™ ability to attract the best players on the market has yielded positive results, as the club has established itself as a dominant force in South African football, winning a record eight league titles in a row. In addition, they clinched several domestic trophies. They also won the inaugural African Football League [AFL] in 2023 and reached the final of the CAF Champions League last season.

In a bid to continue investing in young talent, Sundowns have snapped up the SA Under-17 midfielder Siyabonga Mbongo from Remember Elite Sports Academy. The highly-rated youngsterโ€™s move comes a few months after Sundowns signed SA youth international goalkeeper Lwandiso Radebe from the now-defunct SuperSport United.

Mbongo and Radebe are likely to feature for Sundownsโ€™ DStv Diski Challenge [DDC] side, which serves as a pathway to the senior team. The right-footed starlet follows his former teammate at RESA, Joy Manana, who signed with Orlando Pirates’ DDC side a few months ago.

Mbongo will aim to continue his steady rise to prominence in the colours of Sundowns and break into the club’s first-team plans in the near future.

Meanwhile, in the previous transfer window, Masandawana took a cautious approach, signing fewer players to maintain a manageable squad under the guidance of head coach Miguel Cardoso.

Downs signed players such as Fawaaz Basadien, Nuno Santos, Miguel Reisinho, Tsiki Ntshabeleng, and Aphelele Teto. But the latter has been loaned to the Motsepe Foundation Championship side AmaTuks for the 2025/26 season.
