Bafana Bafana head coach Hugo Broos has given his verdict on Tshepang Moremi’s performance after the winger made his continental bow during the national team’s Monday’s hard-fought victory over Angola.
South Africa kicked off their 2025 AFCON campaign with a 2-1 win over the Palancas Negras at Grand Stade de Marrakech to collect maximum points in their Group B opener in Morocco. The 2023 AFCON bronze medalists drew first blood in the 21st minute through Orlando Pirates star Oswin Appollis to take a 1-0 lead.
A few minutes later, Angola brought the scoreline back to level terms after finding the back of the net in the 39th minute via Show to send the match into the half-time break at 1-1.
As Bafana searched for the winning goal in the second-half, Broos brought in the pacey Moremi in place of Mohau Nkota. The left-footed winger caused all sorts of trouble for the Angolan defence and scored a goal; however, it was ruled out by the Video Assistant Referee [VAR] to be offside.
After the disallowed goal, Moremi provided an assist to Lyle Foster, who fired a clean strike in the 79th minute, which secured all three points for Bafana.
Speaking in a post-match interview, Broos heaped praises on Moremi, admitting that the talented attacker was a constant threat to the opponents in his AFCON debut.
WHAT BROOS SAID ABOUT TSHEPANG MOREMI

“We tried to avoid that [losing the opening match of the AFCON], because if we lost, our next game against Egypt, we would have been in trouble,” Broos said.
“I wasn’t pleased with the game we played in the first half. At just a moment, we led 1-0, then we fell asleep, and we let Angola come back in the game.
“So, we put something right during half-time, and you see in the second half we put more pressure, there is more movement in the team, and then we have chances, and this is what I want.
“Tshepang did a wonderful job in the team; suddenly, there was speed in our team; he was dangerous. He scored a goal with an offside, I don’t know what happened there. But he was a threat to the Angolans, and he did well for the 45 minutes he played.”
