AmaZulu FC have continued their aggressive recruitment drive in the Zimbabwean market, confirming the permanent signing of defensive midfielder Mason Mushore from Bulawayo giants, Highlanders FC.
The deal, which was first mooted by FARPost, was officially ratified by Highlanders on Tuesday. The 23-year-old midfield anchor is set to relocate to the KwaZulu-Natal coast effective from January 1, 2026, marking a significant step in Usuthuโs tactical pivot toward younger, high-ceiling talent.
Mushoreโs departure marks the end of a successful three-season stint with the Highlanders senior team. A product of the famed “Bosso 90” developmental structures, Mushore earned his promotion in 2022. He then quickly established himself as one of the most composed defensive screens in the Zimbabwe’s top-flight.
In a heartfelt farewell statement, the Bulawayo club paid tribute to their departing star. “The club confirms that it has reached an agreement with AmaZulu FC for the permanent transfer of Mason Mushore. We are immensely grateful to Mason for his commitment, passion, and outstanding contributions. We wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on this exciting new chapter.”
AMAZULU STRENGTHENING THE ZIMBABWEAN CONNECTION

Mushoreโs arrival in Durban further solidifies the growing Zimbabwean contingent at Moses Mabhida Stadium. He joins fellow countryman Thandolwenkosi Ngwenya, who has been a revelation for Usuthu since joining at the start of the current campaign.
However, the “Zimbabwean Revolution” under the AmaZulu hierarchy is far from over. Rumors are intensifying that Usuthu are closing in on a third marquee signing from the north: Ngezi Platinum Stars striker Takunda Benhura.
The 23-year-old Benhura, who spearheaded Ngezi Platinum to the 2023 league title, is reportedly set to join Mushore and Ngwenya in January, forming a potent “Zim-trio” at the heart of the club’s new-look squad.
The acquisition of Mushore and the impending arrival of Benhura signal a clear departure from AmaZuluโs previous recruitment philosophy. The latter often favoured aging veterans with high salary demands.
Instead, the club is now looking toward the SADC region for hungry, 23-year-old prospects who offer both immediate quality and long-term resale value. By tapping into the Zimbabwean market, Usuthu are securing “marquee” talent at a fraction of the cost of domestic equivalents.
Mushoreโs journey to the SA top-flight has been one of steady progression through the ranks of Zimbabwean football. After being promoted from the Highlanders development side in 2022, he spent three seasons in the senior team. This is where he became known for his physical presence and tactical intelligence.
His move to AmaZulu at age 23 places him in the prime of his development, ready to compete in the more physically demanding Betway Premiership.
