MC Alger coach Rulani Mokwena has admitted that he would love to sign Orlando Pirates player Relebohile Mofokeng, but explains what has been the stumbling block.
Mokwena continues to impress at the nine-time Algerian champions in his first season at the helm. A 1-0 win over CS Constantine on Monday evening took the club 11 points clear in the Algerian Ligue 1.
The club is now on 35 points after 14 games, with 11 wins, two draws, and one defeat. They are 11 points above second-placed CR Belouizdad, which is coached by former TS Galaxy mentor Sead Ramoviฤ.
WHAT RULANI MOKWENA SAID ABOUT INTEREST IN THE ORLANDO PIRATES STAR
Speaking after the match against CS Constantine on Monday, Mokwena revealed that the club is keen on having the Bafana Bafana international. However, his ambitions are not playing in Africa.
โFor an example, I know the fans want [Relebohile] Mofokeng. I know this, and believe me, I want Mofokeng as well,โ Mokwena told journalists.

WHY RELEBOHILE MOFOKENG IS NOT KEEN ON ANY MOVE IN THE AFRICAN CONTINENT
โHeโs a South African player whom I also spoke to about certain things in South African football. But it is not a transfer that, not just from a financial perspective, because I can tell you, the player has had many offers and has set his sights on going to Europe.
โSo I can talk about it because, itโs just as an example, that the club is ambitious. The club has explored that possibility, but the player has no ambitions to play in Africa. So itโs not a lack of ambition from the president.โ
Mofokeng has previously been linked with a move away from Pirates, with clubs in Europe and Saudi Arabia reportedly interested.
In 2023, the 21-year-old underwent trials at Wolverhampton Wanderers, but nothing came out of the time spent at the Premier League club.
